World Building: The World: Alternate Earth

The questions and things come from here. We’ll see how well I can do this, . If anything really sucks, please, please, PLEASE, let me know!

  • Are there non-human inhabitants of this planet (elves, dwarves, aliens)? If so, how numerous? How openly present? What areas do they occupy?

Elven Humans: They are usually found in the more wooded, mountain-y areas, but not high in them because the cold seems to not react well with their systems.
Vampiric Humans: They tend to live anywhere. They blend in easily, as long as they don’t smile too broadly.
Gods/Goddess: They literally can be found anywhere.
Shape Shifter: They can be found most anywhere. If they’re of “animal birth” they’re found in the prominent areas of their animal brethren. The ones of “human birth” will be found in the areas humans are found.
Faeries: Since faeries have the ability to live the size of humans, they can be found most anywhere. If they choose not to be of human size, they’re usually then found in remote areas, usually warmer climates.

  • How similar are the history and culture of the alternate earth to real history and culture? Why is it so similar/different?

Its similar in that each area has their own gods and goddesses and some have a singular god. The cultures are a bit more “rustic” but more technology can be found than what is found here on Earth. They have cell phones and computers, but they do not drive cars/automobiles. They do drive bikes, though.

  • Is there a specific historical point where this world split off from ours? If so, what was it? How long ago was it? How much has changed and will continue to change as a result? Is the split in history a result of the presence of magic, or is the change the thing that made workable magic a possibility?

No, their world and our world are two completely totally different things.

  • If there is no specific point of divergence, what are the differences between this imaginary world and the real one? How obvious are they in everyday life? If magic exists but history is more or less the same, why has it had no effect? If magic works, elves exist, etc., but most people don’t know it, how and why has this been kept secret?

The only real difference is that the “world” is a group of planets, comprising of a system, much like the “Federation” in Star Trek, or “The Galactic Republic” in Star Wars.
Most humans do not know of the Faeries. I haven’t quite yet figured out why they don’t know, but they don’t (because I have a few GREAT lines for when someone doesn’t know finds out).

  • If magic is known to exist, which historical events have changed and which are the same? How have organized religions reacted? Governments? Ordinary people? What laws and/or professions are different? What effect will the general and specific differences have on the social questions below?

With the government, Magic is strictly controlled. There are ways of getting around these controls but few succeed at it for long.

I’m honestly still working on this, so PLEASE, give me some ideas. I’m up for plot ninjas, ALWAYS!
