Pieces of Advice

Wednesday, November 4th, 2009

Snagged this from Chris Baty, the man who dreamed up NaNoWriMo, the man we all can thank for this insanity.

4) The “collective word count” on the front page of the site still says zero. Do not be fooled! We’ve written many more words than that! We’ll fix it as soon as we can.

5) Same for widgets!

YAY!! That’s the best news!! Especially #5!!

7) And please remember: If you write a paragraph or chapter you don’t like, just put it in italics (or change the font color to white). Do not delete! After you write your way across the 50,000-word finish line, you can double back and clip out all the parts of your book that make you cringe (I think you’ll surprise yourself with what you decide to keep). For now, just keep moving forward! There’s an old folk saying that goes: Whenever you delete a sentence in your NaNoWriMo novel, a NaNoWriMo angel loses its wings and plummets, screaming, to the ground.

Where it will likely require medical attention.

What a way of putting it, but it works!! It’s great for those “I don’t want to write, but I have to write, must boost word count” situations!! I like that idea A LOT!!

Something I wrote in May

I attempted Writo de Mayo (no desire to finish it), but here’s what I wrote for it:

Stephanie took one look at the window of the test stick and sighed. She had known the result before it had popped up, but she had hoped she was wrong. She shook her head as she placed it carefully on the counter. She sat down on the toilet seat and put her head in her hands. What was she going to tell Jason? What was his reaction going to be? They had talked against the idea to become permanent, and she had liked the idea. At least then, she had. Now she was not so sure. This was not supposed to happen.
